A machine for automatically producing a continuous series of rolled-up strips cut from an advancing sheet of material, esp. rolled-up, strip pancakes from a sheet of cooked paste. The sheet is cut into strips and rolled-up while advancing on a conveyor band which brings the sheet first to a transverse slitting device and then to a roll-up device; the slitter pref. comprises a rotary cutter which moves to and fro across the advancing sheet, the cutter being pressed towards the conveyor band on its cutting stroke and raised clear of the sheet on its return stroke; the roll-up device is pref. a rotating cylinder, extending across the band with its axis parallel to the plane of the band and pref. at right angles to the cut line of the slitter, the cylinder surface engaging each strip in turn to roll it up.
