Sealant for double-glazed window panes - of elastomeric hot-melt adhesive with low moisture permeability

In multiple glass panes separated by distance pieces around the edge, leaving a groove around the outside, the groove is filled with a hot melt sealant. The latter is liquid at over 93 degrees C, hardens on cooking without chemical reaction, to 10-80 degrees Share A hardness, and consists of (A) 20-100 parts elastic polymer with mol. wt. 15,000 min. selected from copolymers of isobutylene and isoprene, polyisobutylene, styrene/butadiene, styrene/isoprene, chlorinated rubber and solid polysulphide rubber, (B) 15-150 parts plasticising and tackifying resins, (C) 0-44 parts adhesion accelerators, and (D) 0-150 parts fillers and pigments. The compsn. has a moisture permeability (ASTM-E96-63T Method B) of 8 max. The sealant resists prolonged exposure to weather without needing protective coatings. It does not required applicn. of pressure after insertion, has extremely low moisture permeability, and sufficiently firm and elastic to eliminate the need for welding with the corners of the distance pieces together.
