A classroom teaching aid, for physics experiments, has plate (1) with a coating of ferromagnetic material, and with a matrix of holes (4) designed to receive plugs. The plate may be made of cellular plastics material (2) formed by injection moulding or may be of a homogeneous plastics formed by vacuum moulding, and having a coating of steel. The edges of the plate are designed for fixing stirrups (5, 6) to support objects (a) forming part of the experiment. Feet can also be attached to the edges of the plate so that it can be used in the vertical position. The plate may have a metallic frame around its edges.
