A woven safety belt (e. G for cars) is formed from main warp yarns and main weft yarns and also includes auxiliary weft yarns of lower stretch capacity than the main warp yarns and forming =1 visible band on the belt. The ratio of the stretch capacity of the auxiliary weft yarns to that of the main weft yarns is lower, pref. by 1-5% than the ratio of the force required to stretch the main weft yarns to the limit to the force required to break the belt. If the belt is highly tensioned during an accident, inspection of the band formed by the auxiliary weft yarns gives an indication of whether or not the belt has been over stressed and is still safe.
