A quick release safety coupling for pipe connection has a sleeve nut (1) with a number of internal radial lugs (2) at one end. The lugs (2) lock behind matching external lugs (3) on the pipe when the coupling is closed. The other end of the nut (1) has an internal flange (16) which clamps the coupling tube (7) onto the end face of the pipe. An axially spring loaded ring (9) carried by the coupling tube (7) has a locking pin (15) which penetrates holes in the nut flange (16) and the external lug (3), thus preventing accidental uncoupling.
