A woodworking machine for carrying out multiple planing operations has a two part work surface (17, 18) so that a workpiece can be attached to each, with a cutting tool (11) which can be raised and lowered from underneath to pass through the gap between them, each of which can be tilted pulley support arrangement. Underneath is a horizontal auxiliary table (1, 2) similarly divided, which can be extended sideways and also raised and lowered by a suitable lifting system (e.g. 10, 21). The horizontal cutting tool (11) is supported inside a telescopic casing (12) which is raised and lowered inside an intermediate telescopic casing (8) supporting the auxiliary table (1, 2). The ends of the latter carry attachments for a return spring.
