Superphosphate prodn. by acid digestion of phosphates - in presence of non-ionic surfactants to prevent agglomeration and speed reaction

In the prepn. of superphosphate by reacting natural phosphate with an acid (such as H2SO4 and H3PO4), 100-500 g/ton of product, of =1 non-ionic surfactant (I) are added; (I) being the reaction product of 2-6 moles of ethylene oxide per mole of fatty alcohols, acids or thiols, long chain diols, alkylphenols, fatty amides or polypropyleneoxyethers. Superphosphate products contg. 100-500 g/ton (I) are new. Products are fertilizers. Addition of (I) controls the reaction such that aggregation does not occur and reaction between the acid and phosphate is accelerated. Phosphate of particle size larger than permissible in the current processes may be used so there is a saving on grinding, and mixt. of phosphates of different origins may be used.
