Sorter and selector for lateral slot data cards - uses cards with index teeth on bottom, sandwich cards and selecting fingers

Data supports cards (10) of the 'passive' type have teeth (12) at their base, indexing being achieved by removal of chosen teeth (12). Each of the cards (10) are sandwiched between two 'active' type cards (26). These 'active' cards isolate other 'passive' cards and by friction transmit a lateral movement which is communicated to them by an advancement system. The device has stop and select fingers (36) arranged perpendicular to the cards, actuation of the fingers starting two simultaneous movements. A finger which presses against one of the passive cards teeth is raised and the active cards are displaced to drive by friction only the passive cards whose tooth situated with respect to the actuated stop finger, have been removed.
