Engine auxiliary ignition system for starting - connects auxiliary voltage source momentarily in series with main one

The auxiliary voltage source has half the voltage of the main source and a safety switch, with a push-button change-over switch. The safety switch energises the auxiliary circuit for a cold start, and the change-over switch normally causes the coil to be supplied from the main battery, but when depressed it connects the latter in series with the auxiliary one and thus raises the coil voltage by 40%. The auxiliary circuit is normally used only for a second or so until the engine is turning and the carburettor bowl filled, to produce an exceptionally hot spark. The safety switch is normally open, and prevents accidental use of the auxiliary system.
