The valve consists of a bell-shaped portion (2) fixed within a much larger diameter cylinder (30) at the bottom of the reservoir (22) and having ports (28) cut in its lower half to connect with the discharge duct. A second bell-shaped part (1) slides freely over the first so that it covers the ports in its lowest position and rests on a sealing ring (11). A ball joint (13) and elastic connection connect this second bell to the float vertically above. When emptying, the second bell progressively covers the ports, but the rate of descent is slowed by fluid trapped in the space between the bells just before complete shut off.
