A special cage is mounted between the hulls, with the leading edges of the cage having long struts (23) pivoted between the hulls and tapering to a tubular metal structure, with securing rails. The cage is lowered into the water to catch buoys, with the vessel merely steaming straight at the buoys. The pivots are mounted with vertical adjustment to lift the cage, while a winch raises the rear end. The collected buoy is then lifted through a hole in the deck. The system enables the buoys to be collected even in heavy seas, with no risk of injury to the crew. The vessel is fitted with bows thrusters (65, 67) to enable the buoys to be moved between the hulls.
