The machine is used for loading full baskets of grapes in the vineyard during the harvest. The machine is drawn by a tractor which straddles three rows. The baskets are arranged between the central rows and are overhung by the machine which trails a fork underneath it. The fork slides underneath a central basket and raises it in a vertical cage. A retractable stop prevents the baskets returning to the ground. The fork returns for a second basket which takes the place of the first basket, the latter having been raised by about its own height. The machine then draws alongside a trailer, and an arm (4) seizes the top basket by means of two jaws (5) and places it on the trailer. The jaws open, releasing the basket, and then return to pick up the next basket which has been raised to the correct position by the fork. The arm (4) may pick up baskets and place them in the cage.
