The sheet is conducted around either a drum or an endless belt running around drums, and a liq. is applied to the surface of the sheet either at a return point of the belt or the top part of the drum, so that a thin, uniform film of liq. trickles onto the sheet over its entire width and flows down to the underside of the belt or drum as a closed film. The pref. feed rate for the trickling liq. film is 2-5 cm3 per second pre centimetre width of sheet. Method is esp. for use in the production of thin film or sheet by application of a treatment liq. onto a soln. already applied to the drum or belt. The method enables the entire surface of the soln. to be completely covered, thus excluding contact with air, without resulting in uneven depth of liq., for example by the formation of pools at depressions.
