The phase quadrature compensation of single-phase a.c. electricity meters is controlled by two swivelling compensation vanes (8) on a common shaft (9) which can enter the air gap between a voltage core (1) and a voltage pole (2) to a varying depth. The shaft (9) which is supported by a holder (12) with four tabs (16, 17, 18, 19) is made of plastics and has an integral worm gearing (24) which engages with the thread of a bolt (25), rotatable at right angles to the shaft (9). Three lugs (16, 17, 18) form a 3-point support for the shaft (9); the fourth (19) is attached to a face of the voltage pole (2). This provides a sensitive adjustment which is easy to manufacture.
