Bitumens by air-blowing heavy petroleum fractions - after adding asphaltenes to increase oxidn rate

Bituminous binders are produced by (a) adding asphaltenes to at least one heavy petroleum fraction selected from deasphaltation bitumens, vacuum residues and heavy vacuum distillates, and (b) blowing the mixt. with air. The process is esp. useful for the prodn. of thermally stable hard bitumens ('coatings'), with a softening point of 70-120 degrees C and a 25 degrees C penetration of 13-45. The presence of asphaltenes increases the rate of the reaction between the air and the heavy petroleum fraction and reduces the time required to produce an oxidised bitumen with the required hardness.
