The concrete pedestal base has a hollow column with a flat top. A central hole is provided for fitting the fire box inside the column, this hole being covered by a slab when not in use. The metal fire box is a square column with its top widened out and equipped with a grille for the food. Fire bars are provided, the fire box walls being double skinned at this point to form a cooling and insulating duct. An ash box is fitted at the bottom with a draught control damper above, both being accessible through apertures in the base.
