摘要
Reinforced concrete basements are constructed in areas of high water tables and weak plastic sub-soils by using ribbed or beam and slab floor acting as a prop. between opposed basement walls. The walls are built initially by the 'bentonite' process, followed by installation of floor beams in slit trenches and finally the completion of the excavation and installation of the floor slab. Preferably, the walls extend beneath floor level by a distance required to obviate the 'Renard' effect, the beams (7) thus resisting predominately horizontal forces; main prop beams are sited independently of other structural loads, and subsidiary beams are provided.
