Removing microorganisms from waste water - by contacting with biotoxic substance on a support or a biotoxic polymer

Waste water and industrial effluents are purified by contact with an insolubilised molecule or several molecules having biotoxic activity; the time of contact or surface area of the biotoxic substance being varied to eliminate microorganisms from the water. The biotoxic matl. is pref. an insoluble polymer, or one or several molecules grafted either onto an insoluble support onto an insoluble polymer. Also an installation for the above purification comprises one or several tanks in which the biotoxic substance is placed in such a way to provide a maximum surface contact. No additives such as hypochlorite, which further pollute the water are required. Also the treating substance remains effective for long periods because of its insolubility.
