The pump (11) is driven by the shaft (15) in the housing (10). Fuel enters through the port (12) and flows into the hole (21) and the annulus (22). The fuel then flows into the hole (24) and through the hole (25) in the shaft (15) and then out through the hole (28) whenever the hole (27) is in line with the tube leading to hole (28). As the shaft rotates the radial pistons (18) with rollers (19) pass over cams in the ring (20) which provide an additional pumping effect to force the fuel through the hole (28). The timing of this pumping effect is controlled by the angular position of the cam ring (20) which is actuated by an electronic control system which responds to the engine operation conditions.
