Prestressed concrete pipe end anchorage - has asymmetric T-section formed by three parts

The end anchorage of a prestressed concrete pipe has a steel ferrule (1) and a flange (2) which react the tensile load in a reinforcing rod (4). An extension (3) is welded to the ferrule and has internal corrugations which assist in transferring the prestressing loads into concrete shells. The ferrule projects radially outside the extension so that, during casting, it bears on the mould shell (M) via a flexible abutment (B). To construct the pipe the mould is fitted with the pipe ends, abutments and reinforcement rods and the latter are tensioned by an attachment (A) and nuts (5). When loaded, the concrete is cast and, when set, the abutments are removed, removal being assisted by their tapered form. Removal of the abutments puts the concrete in compression.
