Photoconductive Cd pigments are made by heating the Cd pigment at 500-800 degrees C with an activating amt. of a Cu, Ag and/or Au salt as activator and an Al, Ga and/or In salt as coactivator, whereby =1 of the salts is a halide and =1 of the salts is of an org. anion which disappears from the pigment at temps. the heating temp. Reproducible results are obtd. which allows the amt. of activator to be varied within wide limits without giving an inferior prod.
