The road cleaning machine comprises a wheeled chassis and one or more laterally mounted brushes hinged to this, so as to be drawn within the vehicles periphery by means of a hydraulic or pneumatic regulating member and similarly extensible beyond these limits. The brush (7) is connected to the chassis (1) by two guide-rods (12, 13, 14, 15), each hinged to the chassis at one end, and hinged to the brush box (9) at the other end to form a deformable rectangle. The guide-rods converge towards each other, from their hinge points (16, 17, 18, 19) on the chassis to their hinge points (21, 22, 23, 14) on the brush box, and they are pref. both of the same length. The brush (25) can be shorter, and hinge axes and brush box can be less rigid with less wear on the hinge bearings.
