A tap consists of an inlet pipe outlet to normal and auxiliary outlets. Flow to the auxiliary outlet is via connecting passages controlled by a valve whose washer is mounted on a disc and spindle which moves freely in a sealed hub. This free movement prevents wear of the washer on the valve seat as the hub rotates under the action of a hand wheel. Water pressure forces the washer against the hub to follow the movement of the latter and control flow from one chamber to another. An additional passage is bored from the auxiliary discharge to the main passage and is threaded to take two plugs.
