Vertical dry distillation retort - producing coke from briquetted coal in two coking zones in temp steps

In an internally heated vertical dry distillation retort for the continuous production of coke from briquetted coal, the charge is subjected to a first coking process in a first zone of the retort by heating gas at a temperature of 550-650 degrees C. The semicoke produced thereby undergoes a second coking process in a second zone of the retort by heating gas at a temperature of 900-1100 degrees C. A part of the gas produced in the second zone is introduced to the first zone as complement to the heating gas. This produces coke of metallurgical quality from low-grade caking and non-caking coal. Environmental pollution by soot and fumes during the discharge and quenching of coke are eliminated.
