A device to improve air feed in a carburettor engine consists of a rectangular block with two flaps (2) and (3) mounted on hinges (4) and (5) attached to the inner edges of the block but on opposite sides. A torsion spring (8, 9) presses the flap tip against a central tube (6). The tube (6) is provided with radial holes (7) on its under-surface and, for slow-running conditions, air from a convenient external source is fed from the pipe (6) into the gap between the valve tips. As the manifold depression increases the flaps are sucked downwards. The block (1) can be fitted into the engine manifold immediately below the carburettor without increasing the overall height of the engine, making it suitable for cars with a low bonnet line.
