Mixing of fluids by jets impinging on films - useful for liqs. and gases, giving very homogeneous mixts.

Fluids are mixed by giving the prim. fluid a flow in the form of a thin film and the sec. fluid a flow in the form of a number of jets. The jets of sec. fluid come into contact with the film of prim. fluid at an angle and pressure dependant on the nature of the fluids, and at a speed such that the sec. fluid is dispersed in the prim fluid. The film of prim. fluid may be cylindrical or conical or in the shape of parallel truncated cones or plane parallel curtains, and the jets of sec. fluid may be at right angles or inclined in the form of inverted truncated cones, or in series in parallel planes. A third fluid may be introduced at the point of impact. The appts. incorporates a mixing chamber with means of forming the film and the jets, and of feeding the fluids and discharging the mixt. The process is simple and is applicable to liqs. and gases, giving a very homogeneous mixt. of different fluids.
