The axle (2) and bearing (3) assembly cage (1) for use on bicycles, comprises a hollow cylindrical axle and bearing housing (1) which is fixed into the cycle frame. The housing has closed and screw capped (5) ends with axial apertures permitting stub axle projections on each side, and contains the main axle body and its bearings. The axle step reduces in dia. to form identical stub axles at each end and to form, with the houusing walls, annular recesses for location of ring bearing race assemblies (3). A safety circlip (4) is used to fix the axle against axial displacement.
