A vibration damping material comprises a homogenous mixt. of =30 wt. % org. polymer and 30-70 pref. 40-60 esp. 50 wt. % bitumen, and is pref. made up solely of these components. The material is used as such in antivibratory structures, as a lining for a metal or as an intermediate layer between two metal plates. Apart from having improved vibration damping coefficient the material has an efficiency range of 100 degrees C, between +10 and +100 degrees C, and has a high Yound's modulus even at 80 degrees C. Pref. bitumen has an H/C ratio of 1.18-1.19, 1.43-1.45 or 1.49-1.51 and it m.pt. is 62, 99, or 125 degrees C resp. The polymer is PVC, polystyrene, polyisoprene or styrene/isoprene copolymer. A pref. polymer is a styrene-isoprene- styrene block copolymer, partic one where the isoprene block contains =60 wt. % vinyl bonds i.e. 1,2 and 3,4 isoprene structurs. Pref. the isoprene block contains 15 wt. % 1,4-, 15 wt. % 1,2- and 70 wt. % 3,4- isoprene structures and the block copolymer contains 30 wt. % styrene.
