The bricks contain cavities (3) open at one end, and are placed in rows on top of one another to form a wall on the inside surface of which are placed various layers of heat and/or noise insulating material. In order to avoid the necessity of adding these layers after the wall is built, all or part of the cavities (3) in each brick are first filled with insulating material (4). The insulating material used depends on the type of insulation required, but it could be either in a strip like fibreglass or a product injected straight into the cavities such as polystyrene or polyurethane. The ends of the filled cavities which are open to the outside are covered with a water/air-tight film (6), preventing the insulating material from absorbing humidity during construction.
