1430363 Pilot burner; gas burners PARKINSON COWAN APPLIANCES Ltd 24 Sept 1973 [29 June 1972] 30394/72 Headings F4F and F4T A gas burner 10 is supplied with gas fuel via a capillary tube 13 having means, which may be said burner itself or another gas burner or another heating source, for applying heat to the exterior of at least a portion of the capillary tube, so that when the tube is so heated the specific gravity of the gas fuel flowing through the tube will be decreased and its kinematic viscosity increased thereby reducing the burning rate as compared with a condition in which less heat or no heat is applied to the exterior of the capillary tube. Thus a pilot burner supplied through the capillary tube which is heated by the pilot flame initially has a large flame extending to a glow coil igniter but in a steady state the flame is smaller and does not impinge on the glow coil, whereas if a draught blows the pilot flame of the capillary tube the flow rate is temporarily increased to avoid blow-out. In another arrangement for a cooker oven the controlled burner 10 is a permanent pilot burner which ignites an auxiliary pilot 17 when gas is supplied thereto under the control of a clock, the pilot 17 heating a flame failure device 18 to open a valve supply gas to a main burner 16 the flame of which heats the capillary 13 to reduce the burning rate of pilot 10, a thermostat reducing the supply to burner 16 when a preset oven temperature is attained.
