A drawtwisting frame, Fig. 2, has rails 1 movable and pivotable on guides 24 so that rows of wound cops 20 may be gripped and raised by rows of grippers 28 mounted on chains rollable longitudinally within the rails. The chains with wound cops are withdrawn, Fig. 4, onto rails 4, 5 of wheeled carriage 32 which is then re-located so that chains carrying empty cops may be withdrawn from carriage rails 6, 7 into rails 1 prior to cop donning. Carriage 32 is then moved to station C, and the chains are moved from rails 4, 5 via rails 8, 8' to station 10. Here the wound cops are unloaded, sorted and packed, and empty cops are loaded. The chains are then moved via rails 11, 11' to the rails on returned carriage 32.
