An adhesive composition, is provided, containing as a binder a graft polymer on a water-soluble cellulose ether of A. AN UNSATURATED CARBOXYLIC ACID OF THE FORMULA WHERE R' and R'', independently of each other, are hydrogen or an alkyl group having 1-2 carbon atoms B. AN ALKYL ACRYLATE HAVING 1-8 CARBON ATOMS IN THE ALKYL PORTION, AND C. VINYL ACETATE.
