1444129 Polyoxyalkylenepolysiloxanes; polyurethane foams UNION CARBIDE CORP 28 Sept 1973 [29 Sept 1972] 456l3/73 Headings C3T and C3R An organopolysiloxane consists of units (A) SiO 2 , (B) E e R 3-e SiO 0À5 , and (C) R 3 SiO 0À5 in molar ratio 0À75-2 : 1 : 0À1-1, wherein E is an organic-capped polyoxyalkylene chain linked to Si through a C-Si bond, R is a hydrocarbyl radical, and e is 1-3. It may be prepared by hydrolysis of the corresponding hydrolysable silanes, the polyether chains being introduced by addition of an unsaturated polyether to a dihydrocarbyl hydrogen silane before or after the hydrolysis. Preferably R contains 1-12 C atoms, and E is WO(C n H 2n O) d L-, wherein d is 4-30, n is 2-4, at least 75 wt. per cent of the units C n H 2n O being C 2 H 4 O, L is a divalent hydrocarbon radical, and W is a hydrocarbyl, acyl or carbamyl radical. These polysiloxanes are useful in the preparation of foams from polyester polyols and polyisocyanates, for which purpose they may be mixed with a C 15-20 carboxylic acid and a silicon-free surfactant and/or a glycol, and suitably also water and an amine catalyst. A preferred acid is tall oil; suitable surfactants are ethoxylated C 10-18 alcohols or alkyl phenols; a suitable glycol is hexylene glycol. In the Examples polysiloxanes containing units (A), (B) and (C) in molar ratios 1À2-2À0 : 1 : 1, 0À75-1À25 : 1 : 0À25, or 1À1 : 1 : 0À11 are prepared by adding water to xylene solutions of mixtures of (CH 3 ) 3 SiCl, (C 2 H 5 O) 4 Si and E(CH 3 ) 2 SiCl, where E is a methyl-, benzyl- or benzyl-and-acetyl-capped polyoxyethyleneoxypropylene chain of 6À3-7À2 C 2 H 5 O units. They are used in the preparation of foams from an adipic acid/diethylene glycol/trimethylolpropane polyester polyol and TDI in the presence of hexadecyl dimethylamine, water and optionally tri-chlorethyl phosphate.
