1527695 Feeding animals CHORE-TIME NV 7 March 1977 [10 March 1976] 09524/77 Heading AIM In an animal feeding installation having a conveyor in a supply duct 1 supplying metering troughs 2 which each supply a preset volume of food to the animals, in order that the same weight of food should be supplied irrespective of changes in its density, every time the food supply is changed the food passing through the supply duct is sampled to determine its specific volume, and the setting of the metering troughs adjusted accordingly. The height of the metering troughs relative to the supply duct 1 can be varied to vary the volume of food deposited thereon. A device 3 for measuring the specific volume of the food is mounted beneath a valve controlled aperture in the supply duct and has a measuring cylinder 6 suspended from a counter-weighted lever. On opening the valve food enters the cylinder 6 until a predetermined weight is reached, whereupon the lever actuates a switch closing the valve. The volume of food is determined from graduations on the cylinder, and the metering troughs are adjusted so that a predetermined weight of food is delivered thereto. The metering troughs are periodically discharged into a margin or into the stable floor.
