1466537 Jointing by forging MONROE AUTO EQUIPMENT CO 21 Feb 1975 [22 Feb 1974] 7415/75 Headings B3H and B3U A piston 50, Fig. 8, is fixed to a piston-rod 22 by deforming the end face of the rod using a tool T which is moved in a cycloidal path to cause progressive flow of the piston-rod material and form a mechanical interlock. The piston 50 is supported on the bed of a machine which has a rotary chuck 120 for the tool T. The bed has a fixed jaw 126 and a movable jaw 128 to grip the piston. The movable jaw is moved by a lever 156 connected to the jaw 128 via an overcentre linkage, Fig. 5 (not shown). The pistonrod 22 is supported on the end of an adjustable rod (196) under the machine bed.
