1430849 Ropes BAYER AG 28 June 1973 [29 June 1972] 30790/73 Heading D1T A strand for a cable comprises a core 1 of a bundle of untwisted synthetic fibres, a layer 2 of synthetic wires 3, which are coarse compared with the synthetic fibres, spirally wound around the core, and at least one further spiral layer 6 of juxtaposed coarse synthetic wires 3 separated from the layer 2 by a layer 4 of synthetic fibre bundles 5. The untwisted fibres of the core 1 may be arranged in parallel. The fibre bundles 5 may be spirally wound or arranged parallel to the core 1. There may be an outermost layer 9 composed of spiral bundles 10 of coarse synthetic wires 3, each bundle having a core 11 of fibres or a synthetic wire. Filling twine 13 may be inserted between the bundles, and filling twine 12 between the wires 3. The materials used for the wires and fibres are mainly polyamide but also include polyethylene, polypropylene, polyurethane, polyesters and polycarbonate.
