Transmission of information over long distances is performed using modulated electromagnetic waves. The transmission characteristics vary according to wavelengths used and properties of the transmission medium. Interaction between electromagnetic radiation and plasma of the ionosphere creates a suitable ionised reflecting layer for transmission of modulated waves. Two laser beam sources (6, 8) having different frequencies are directed towards a point at an altitude determined by the user to create a strongly ionised layer (P) in the ionosphere. The laser beams are pulsed and deflected (x, y) to sweep a point of intersection of the beams. UHF transmissions are radiated (14) towards the reflecting layer (P) and are transmitted distances depending on physical conditions and number of transmissions.
