Torque converter for tractor - varies output shaft speed by variator-driven differential having near-zero speed at usual tractor speed

The torque converter, pref. intended for a tractor, comprises an input shaft and an output shaft. It is provided with a differential gearing and the speed of the output shaft can be varied by means of a variator which acts on the differential gear such, that at the usual operating speed of the tractor, the speed of the variator is zero or very low. The output speed of the variator is preferably adjustable by the operator and the sense of rotation reversible. The variator may be an hydraulic torque converter. The differential may comprise a planetary gear system of which the sun wheel is driven by the tractor engine and the satellite carrier by the variator.
