The mechanism is for loading ships (1) particularly loading filled bags (16), and comprises a vertically movable helical shute (2), a dispensing table (13) rotatable through 360 deg. and arranged at the bottom of the shute, and a conveyor belt (4) to feed the bags to the entrance of the shute. The table is secured to the shute to form an assembly which, in its entirety, is rotatable through 360 deg.. The end portions (10) of the conveyor belt is pivotable about an horizontal axis (11) such that the end of this portion can follow the top winding (9) of the helical shute when this rotates.
