A self-adhesive lettering system, with rectangular backing papers for protection of the letters until stripped for application, in which the letters are enclosed in a rectangular background so that a positive symbol may be obtained by taking off the letter itself, or a negative outline symbol in a square by using the outer part after removal of the positive letter. Lettering may be stamped from a sheet of polyvinylchloride.
