Wire electrode for steel welding in CO2 consists of a low-C steel cover filled with a powder mixt. contg.,by wt., 4-8% calcined magnesite and 6-9% feldspar, in addn. to 4-5.5% CaF2, 14-20% TiO2, 6-10% Fe-Mn, 1.5-3% Fe-Si, bal. Fe powder. Wire electrode is for use in semi-automatic and automatic welding of metal construction of low C construction steels, low alloyed steels and higher strength steels. Fluoride gas separation is strongly reduced without impairing welding properties.
