Stabiliser mixt. of etherified ortho-phenol and thiophosphite - for polymers, lubricating oils, paints, solvents and foods liable to peroxidic breakdown

New stabiliser compsn. contains (a) a 2,4,6-tri-substd. o-phenylphenol etherified in the 4-position with an organic group and (b) a phosphite contg. =1 -SCH2CH2Y group (where Y is beta-activating group) linked directly to the P atom. The stabiliser is used in substances which are sensitive to peroxidic breakdown, e.g. polyethylene, polypropylene, EPDM rubbers, PVC, lubricating oils, polystyrene, copolymers of butadiene with styrene and/or acrylonitrile, poly-cis-isoprene, polyesters, paints, lacquers solvents and foods. Pref. (a) is a p-alkoxy-2,6-diphenylphenol, where the alkoxy group has is not 20C, Component (b) is e.g. tris-(beta-carbooctoxyethyl)-tristhiophosphite (I) or cyanoethyl thiodilauryl phosphite. The ratio by wt. of (a):(b) is pref. 10:1-1:10 (1:2.5). Stabilised compsns. pref. contain 0.05-10 wt. % of the stabiliser mixture. In an example, PVC contained 2.5 wt. % (I) and 1 wt. % 2,6-diphenyl-4-decanoxyphenol.
