The parking meter has facilities for central control and monitoring of a large car park. The right of a car to occupy a parking place as determined by the insertion of a coin of certain value, or by token or otherwise is shown by the illumination of a lamp, which is automatically extinguished on expiry of a lamp of the right, e.g. by the elapse of a predetermined period of time. A panel for controlling ten parking spaces has coin slots controlling electronic circuits which light lamps in the row allocated to the relevant parking place. An additional warning lamp in the row of lamps allocated to each parking place lights up a predetermined time after the expiry of the prepaid time and the extinction of the other lamps.
