A settler has a surface scraper to collect floated material and direct it to the side of the vessel. A trough collects the material. The trough has a wall which can be moved up and down. It is at an angle to a line at right angles to the direction of movement of the scraper. As the scraper passes the top of the wall at that point is lowered below the liq. surface. The moving wall prevents an excessive build up of light material and allows it to be removed without too much water.
