A method for the determination of the relative concentrations of two materials in a mixture, whose absorption bands are so close that the radiation absorption shows a minimum between them. Measurements are made in three adjacent narrow spectral regions, chosen according to the difference between the spectral intensities of the two outermost ranges, and to the differences between the means and the outermost zones. The method is especially applicable to determination of degrees of dissociation of weak electrolytes, such as indicators, and therefore for precision pH measurements or for adjustment of pH values to a precise level.
