The flow-through-type water heater has a box-shaped combustion chamber with a block of fins at the open top containing parallel tubes for the water, coupled to each other by bends. The open bottom of a box-shaped smoke discharge cowl fits over the fin block. The fin block is in the form of a sliding drawer, and in the inserted position forms a gastight seal against the combustion chamber and the cowl. It can be enclosed in a rectangular frame of flat plates, the end plates having ports through which the fin tube ends fit and being joined to them. The lower edges of all plates form in the inserted position a seal against a protruding edge on the combustion chamber.
