The preparation process involves reacting hexamethylenetetramine with an alkali metal thiocyanate or alkaline earth metal thiocyanate in the aqueous phase in the presence of approximately equivalent amounts of an acid. The aqueous solution obtained from the reaction is treated, without the reaction product being isolated, with a phsiologically acceptable carrier which is essentially inert to hexamethylenetetramine and the thiocyanates, and the product is dried at no more than 100 DEG C. The advantage of the process is that complicated work-up and isolation of the hexamethylenetetramine thiocyanate is dispensed with. The resulting dry preparations are storage-stable, have a pronounced germicidal activity and can be used directly as a bactericidal and mycocidal additive to animal feeds.
