1361909 Epoxy resin moulding materials CIBA-GEIGY AG 14 June 1972 [15 June 1971] 27829/72 Heading C3B Storage stable moulding materials contain: (I) pre-adducts containing aromatic constituents and free epoxy groups formed from epoxy resins and polyamines; (II) preadducts containing free amino groups prepared from cycloaliphatic or heterocyclic polyamines and glycidyl compounds; and (III) mineral or organic pulverulent or fibrous fillers. I and II soften at 45-120‹ C. and melt 5-30‹ C. above the softening point and are present predominantly as discrete particles. I may be prepared by reacting a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A containing at least 2 epoxide equivalents per kg. and a diamine, e.g. 4,4SP1/SP-diaminodiphenylmethane. II may be prepared by reacting a low molecular weight polyglycidyl compound with the heterocyclic or cycloaliphatic polyamine, e.g. N-aminoethylpiperazine or 1,3-bis-(aminomethyl)cyclohexane, e.g. by heating at 50-200‹ C. in the absence of solvents. Uses.-Electrical insulation.
