Extrusion coating of base material(s) e.g. paper, car board, forming a coherent strip, by means of a molten thermoplastic material in such a way that at specific positions in the resulting laminate, the coating material is not attached to the base material(s). For this purpose the thermoplastic material is cooled to such a low temp. at the desired positions prior to bending with the base material, that the coating material at these cooled positions is not bended to the base material during the coating process. Permits packing materials to be produced with free edges which can be bonded later to form a sealed package.
