In a U-shaped frame (1) which can be attached to a wall, a microphone (3) is disposed on its base surface (2) with a speech inlet (4). The lateral limbs (5, 6) of the frame are high enough to shield the speech inlet at the sides from ambient noise. A loudspeaker (7, 8) is disposed in each case on the inside of each of the projecting ends of the limbs. The aforementioned loudspeakers radiate the generated sound in a direction which is essentially parallel with the surface of the speech inlet. The distance between the loudspeakers and the microphone is only slightly greater than the average distance between the human ear and mouth. With this arrangement, the user is caused to move his ears closer to the loudspeakers when the sounds from the loudspeakers are weak and thus simultaneously to bring his mouth closer to the microphone.
